Hey, what's up SB Warriors, Paul K here and today we're gonna talk about the cost to acquire a customer. Alright, let's get into it. Hey guys, if you're like me, you've always had a desire to do more and deep inside you've known there's a way and a possibility for you to achieve your dreams, the lifestyle and achieve the freedom you've always wanted. Because we have what it takes to get things done and learn from others and get the mindset to achieve the dreams we've always wanted.
Welcome to SB Warriors. Alright, so when you talk about the cost to acquire a customer, you know, it doesn't sound very sexy, it doesn't sound very exciting and it's like one of those things, especially if you're a business that has a service-based industry where there's a possibility to repeat business. But if you think about it, whatever nature industry you're in, you always have that possibility of repeat business. And I'm gonna tell you the story.
So this morning I went out, I took my kid to school and I went to the gym and I finally got these stitches removed from my mouth. But when I'm coming back from the dentist, I'll tell you about the stitches later. I'm coming back from the dentist, I'm sitting there, I call my wife, I'm like, Hey, I'm done, you know what you want to do? And I'm sitting at the light.
And we're at this light. And there's basically a six-lane highway. So there's three lanes to my left and I'm in the three going heading up to the right. And there's this huge divider, the divider you could actually drive through.
But it's this grass greeny, so it looks very nice, right? Well, I see this guy and he's driving, so I'm facing, let's just say I'm facing north. And I see this guy trying to go east. And so he's sitting there and I see him, I keep hearing all this honky.
I'm like, why do I keep hearing all this honky? And I look over and this guy is trying to take a left into incoming traffic. And I'm like, ahh, and I didn't realize it for a second. And then all of a sudden I'm on the phone with my wife and he takes the turn.
And I'm like, whoa! And she's like, are you okay? And I'm like, oh my God, this guy just took a left. And I'm like, oh, I've seen some gnarly accidents because evidently this guy didn't know what he was doing.
And I'm sitting there holding my breath, like, it's like clenching on my face cover and I'm like, I'm sorry, I have no idea whether this guy is about to kill himself because he doesn't realize there's incoming traffic. Now what's crazy about this is there's literally two cars facing him. And so he's trying to go in that very left lane. And he doesn't see any dividing highway, anything that like, looks like it would allow you to go up.
But for some reason in his mind, he's like, well, I'm just taking a left. I enter an intersection. Even though there's like, this is a lane to go this way, then there's a break, and then there's a lane to go that way. And so he's trying to get left into it.
I freaked out. And it was like one of those things you're like, when you see a car accident, it's like you can't help but to watch. And I was like really bothered by the whole thing. And so what it makes me think of a lot of times is people, when it comes to their business, they are sometimes taking these turns and they don't know where they're going.
They don't have the idea of like, hey, this is what I'm trying to do. Like, where am I going? Where am I trying to take these things? And the reason why it makes me think about this is because the cost to acquire one customer.
Like, if you know what that cost is, you break that down, then you can kind of control everything. Now, this is what I have a huge problem with. A lot of times people work really hard to acquire that customer. And then they just leave them.
It's like, so imagine you're dating because advertising, marketing, getting new customers, a lot of it's like dating. You spend all this time and energy, and then all of a sudden you hook up, you meet up, coffee, whatever, we'll keep it PG people. And then all of a sudden you're like, I'm good. I gotta go get a new customer.
And it's like, well, you spend all the time to get this customer at this date. Like, why are you working harder to get new customers when you have a list of existing customers? I bet you they either can come back to your business again. They could refer somebody to you.
These are people you still need to reach out to, communicate, stay in touch with. And you know what the funny thing is? I'm guilty of this too. It's such a weird phenomenon.
Like, if you started, you worked with people, you've helped people out, then all of a sudden you're like, well, you know, you just kind of like, you just back off. Like, someone rejected you or something. And it's like, wait a second. You work that hard.
It's all you have to do is send them an email. Send them a text message. Do something because you work so hard to get these new customers. So right now, the reason I'm bringing this up is I'm starting a new campaign with these push notifications.
And so, push notifications are what you can do is once you acquire people into your world and they allow you to do notifications to them. It can be done via a certain platform, like say, you can send out a message via Facebook. You can actually get a text message. It's not a push notification, but you can get a text message and send it directly to their cell phone.
You can get access through when someone visits your website. Hey, can I say you push a notification? There's a number of different ways, but there's also a way to actually push notify in an advertising campaign. So when somebody's looking at a certain field of a genre, you can push and notify them and actually offer.
Like, boom, hey, would you like this? And it comes across them and it allows them to actually go, hey, is something you might be interested in. Now, the pros and cons to this are you have to really define what it is you're offering. You don't know who's going to take advantage of it.
But the cool thing is you are now creating a less invasive form of advertising and you're now throwing something across it. It comes across as a little like a little like notification. Like any other notification on my Mac, I got a notification. You need to update something like that.
And so it little things like that, different ways, try different things. If you're not communicating to that list, you're wasting all the energy and effort. It's like trying to date all these people over and over and over and over again. Like, why?
You have a list. You have a harem. Sorry, I had to go there. You have a bunch of people waiting.
They're ready to go. So, no, sorry, I don't believe in harem. But you have these people here. They're on your list.
Email them. Send them something of value. If you don't know how to create that thing of value, you know, brainstorm. Put yourself back in their shoes and go, you know, what can I send people that will be something that they might enjoy?
They might get some pleasure out of it or might be in a form of something that they didn't know about. So whether whatever niche you're in, you can do it. Just kind of thing about things. So you don't have to keep spending all this money.
Because if you go value, value, value, and then you go, hey, I got to offer or value, value, value, value, value, offer, whatever it is you want to do. But people will start to resonate and they'll then want to purchase. They want to consume. They want to come back in your store.
Online, offline. It's the same principle. I'm really thinking there's so many principles that we as business owners violate. And we just kind of have to kind of take ourselves out of our mind frame.
I'm business owner. I do this. I have to do this. And then put ourselves in customer.
What is our customer thing? Oh, hey, like, oh, do I like any text messages? Do I like any emails? I do.
I'll look at an email from somebody that I like, something that I've gotten something from. Some like information, whether it's a resource, whether it's a knowledge, whether it's a discount. You know, there's during Black Friday, I was like, oh, discount, discount, discount, discount. And it was from things that I like to do.
So think about that. And to let you guys know, the guy, he made the left into the wrong way traffic. Everyone's blowing the heart. And all of a sudden, he just, luckily, this guy, he was able to back out and then go, he didn't bother turning the right way.
He was like, I'm just getting the bleep out of here. And he just kept going. He was like, I'm out of here. So he survived.
And I think he learned real quick what it looks like to turn down a one-way street. Man, I got to tell you, don't ever do that. Don't turn down one-way street. But more importantly, reach out to your customers since you spend all this money to get them.
Well, you know what? Let's spend a little less money or a little more time and figure out a system that you can use to communicate with them and stay relevant in their minds. All right, guys, take care. Hope you enjoy this.
And if you notice one thing, I probably, I might be a little bit louder. I'm actually able to do this one in the day. Most of the time I do this at night. I still work full time.
And so I didn't have an opportunity. I had a lot of times I come in. I'm like, hey, guys, and I try to be as animated as I am. But it's a little bit hard when you have a six-month-year-old sleeping.
You know, your other kids are sleeping. And they're like, wife's like, what are you doing this podcast thing? She doesn't talk like that. All right, have a great day.
Keep pushing, guys. And I'll see you next time.
