Story of Scripture--Day #86 "Guarding Unity" (Joshua 22)

from Restoration: Where New Life Begins · host John Baldwin

Day 86 — “Guarding Unity” (Joshua 22)Not every conflict starts with rebellion—sometimes it starts with misunderstanding. In Joshua 22, the eastern tribes built an altar that immediately raised concern among the rest of Israel. From a distance, it looked like compromise… even disobedience. And before long, assumptions began to form, tension began to rise, and the threat of division became very real. What could have easily escalated into civil war was already in motion—not because of open sin, but because of unclear motives. But instead of rushing into conflict, the people chose a better path—they pursued clarity. They went, they asked, they listened. And what they discovered changed everything. The altar wasn’t an act of rebellion—it was a testimony. A reminder for future generations that they belonged to the Lord just like the rest of Israel. What looked like division was actually devotion. How often do we face the same danger? We see something from a distance, we interpret it through our own lens, and we assume the worst. Without realizing it, we allow misunderstanding to create distance in relationships, in families, and even in the church.Joshua 22 reminds us that unity doesn’t happen by accident—it must be guarded intentionally. It requires humility to pause, wisdom to seek understanding, and grace to believe the best before assuming the worst.God deeply values unity among His people. And many of the divisions we experience today could be avoided if we would simply slow down long enough to communicate. So before you draw conclusions… ask questions. Before you react… seek understanding. Before you divide… pursue peace.Because unity is worth protecting.Support the show
