Street doctors bring healthcare to the unhoused

According to the CDC, people experiencing homelessness are more likely to suffer from chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease, but getting help for those conditions is not easy when you’re also dealing with a lack of housing, money, and food. Doctors at Baylor University Medical Center have joined other physicians around the country to bring medical treatment directly to the forests and underpasses where their patients live. One of the team’s leaders, Dr. John Garrett, says this is the first program of its kind in Dallas. He joined us to reflect on the Street Medicine team's progress so far.
