In a world filled with frustration, hardship, and brokenness, how do we endure? In this episode, we dive into the reality that while Jesus has redeemed us from the curse, we still live in a fallen world. Drawing from Genesis 3 and Romans 8, we explore the deep truth that not everything bad that happens is someone's fault—it’s simply part of life in a world marred by sin.

But here’s the good news: everything, even our suffering, points us to Jesus. Suffering well doesn’t mean ignoring the pain or pretending it doesn’t exist. It means facing trials with faith, dignity, and resilience—allowing our hardships to draw us closer to God. We look at the example of Christ, who endured suffering with purpose, and how we can follow in His footsteps by trusting in God’s plan.

We’ll also talk about the dangers of trying to "ignore and override" pain, a mentality common in both military and church culture, and why we must face suffering head-on, rooted in hope. Discover how to endure life's storms under the covering of Christ's grace, and remember that God never wastes a hardship.

Over time I gravitated to the original teachings of the Buddha, embodied in the Theravadan tradition, for their down-to-earth clarity, and important sources for me have included the teachers of Spirit Rock Meditation Center and the Pali Canon itself. More recently, I've explored grounding the dharma in modern evolutionary neuropsychology - "neurodharma" - recognizing how mind arises dependently upon the body, especially the nervous system as it tries to meet ancient needs for raw survival. I am especially interested in using these approaches to heighten the learning - the cultivation (bhavana) - from beneficial experiences (otherwise often wasted on the brain) to reduce the underlying sense of deficit and disturbance that causes the craving that causes suffering and harm.
