Sufficiency for the Step Trading Self-Reliance for His Sufficient Grace 2 Corinthians 12:9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." Welcome to Strength Exchanged. I'm Juanita, and I'm so grateful you've joined me today. Before we begin, I want to take a moment to give all glory to God. Recently, my memoir, Strength Exchanged, was honoured with the Christlit Book Award 2026. I am incredibly thankful, but this award isn't ultimately about me. My prayer has always been that every chapter would point people to Jesus—the One who exchanges our weakness for His strength. Today's episode comes from one of the most personal chapters in that book. It tells the story of the moment I stopped fighting in my own strength and discovered that Christ's grace truly is sufficient. If you've ever felt exhausted from trying harder… If you've ever believed you needed to become stronger before God could use you… Then I pray today's message reminds you that His strength shines brightest in our weakness. Let's pray. Prayer Father, Thank You for every person listening today. You know exactly what they are carrying. You know the temptation they are battling, the fear they are hiding, the disappointment they are trying to overcome, and the places where they feel completely inadequate. Today, would You remind us that Your grace is enough. Teach us to stop relying on ourselves and to rest completely in You. In Jesus' name, Amen. We Live in a World That Celebrates Strength Our culture constantly tells us to be stronger. Push harder. Work longer. Be more disciplined. Never let anyone see you struggle. But God's Kingdom is completely different. The Kingdom doesn't celebrate self-sufficiency. It celebrates dependence upon Christ. Paul didn't boast about how capable he was. He boasted in his weakness because it became the place where God's power was displayed. For years, I thought victory depended on how determined I could be. I believed if I could just become disciplined enough, I would finally overcome my emotional eating, my cravings, and the cycle of striving. But every time I relied on my own strength, I eventually reached the end of myself. Perhaps you've felt that too. Maybe your struggle looks different. Maybe it's anxiety. Fear. Control. People-pleasing. Or simply trying to hold your family together while quietly feeling exhausted inside. Whatever it is, God never intended you to carry it alone. The Moment Everything Changed One evening, I had absolutely nothing left. The temptation felt overwhelming. Instead of trying to white-knuckle my way through another battle, I dropped my head onto the kitchen table and simply cried out to the Lord. I prayed, "Lord… I am entirely weak tonight. I have nothing left. I cannot overcome this on my own. But You said Your grace is sufficient for me. You said Your power is made perfect in weakness. So I surrender this moment to You." Something happened that I can only describe as supernatural. The pressure lifted. A deep peace settled over my heart. The craving didn't simply disappear—it was replaced by something far greater. The presence of Jesus. That night I realised something that changed my life forever. I didn't need to become stronger. I needed to become more surrendered. Grace for This Step One of the greatest lessons God taught me is that His grace isn't stored up like a reservoir that we draw from occasionally. His grace is living. Active. Present. It meets us exactly where we are. Sometimes we become overwhelmed because we're trying to carry tomorrow. We worry about next week. Next month. Next year. "What if I fail again?" "What if I never change?" But God doesn't give us tomorrow's grace today. He gives us grace for this moment.
