３つの小品より、第２曲。「謎」（エニグマ）です。中期～後期にありがちな、飛翔するような動機が中心、でもないか。いくつかの性格をもったモチーフが組み合わされています。調性について、この曲を無調とするみかたもあるようですが、私としてはかなり明確な「変ニ長調」ではないかと。確かに終結は長調の和音でも何でもないのですが、曲全体を通してみればまだ明確に長調の枠組みの中で動いているように思われます。
