Sunday Edition: Literacy in the BVI Community

Sunday Edition Show Notes   Title: Literacy in the Blind and Low Vision Community   Original Air Date: September 21, 2025   This week’s Sunday Edition launched the first in a series of conversations on literacy in the blind and low vision community. With a mix of experts, real time Braille users, and diverse voices representing non Braille reading literacy, this discussion opened the door to deeper understanding of what literacy means for all of us.   Panelists explored a wide range of topics including Braille literacy, print disability, electronic literacy, and how artificial intelligence can support access. The dialogue highlighted the importance of respecting and validating all forms of reading, writing, and communication. For some, Braille remains central. For others, like myself, secondary conditions or sensitivity loss make Braille difficult or impossible. In those cases, alternative methods become vital.   Together we looked at how to bridge the divide and how we can stand united in advocacy for literacy in all of its forms.
