Supporting our Young Adults with FASD: a Candid Conversation with author Melissa Jacobus

from Living with FASD · host Patricia Kasper

Living with FASD is an educational and human interest show for those living with the effects of prenatal exposure to alcohol, their loved one and anyone interested in learning more about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, brought to you by someone with both professional and living experience with FASD. This week I am excited to be joined at the mic by Melissa Jacobus, FASD Advocate and author of The Accomplice. Melissa Jacobus has been advocating for her adopted children and the rights  of all individuals with FASD since 1998. At the national level, she is a parent advocate and member of the Justice Task Force for the FASD United, serves on the Advisory Committee for FASD Communities, and served as a member of the Speakers Bureau for the Centers for Disease Control's Fetal Alcohol  Spectrum Disorders Southeast Regional Training Center. In 2019, Ms. Jacobus was inducted into FASD United's Tom and Linda Daschle FASD Hall of Fame. Her book, The Accomplice was written as a message of hope and is a call to action to bring awareness to assist the one in twenty who are impacted by this "invisible disability" of FASD.  The other call to action Melissa shares with listeners is to step up and support the FASD Respect Act, utilizing the structure and supports provided you on the FASD United website (fasdunited.org). Together, we MUST get this passed in 2024!! If you would like to suggest topics of the show or just to say hello, you can reach me at [email protected]. If you would like to become part of the podcast community, hop on over to Facebook and join our group “Living with FASD Podcast.” I am a Certified Facilitator of FASCETS Neurobehavioral Model. If you would like information about the neurodevelopmental model and would like to book a training for agencies or community groups, please reach out to me here: https://calendly.com/kaspertrainingan... If you would like to talk with me about coaching services, either as a parent of a child with FASD, or as a neurodivergent adult (perhaps by listening you’ve begun to question if prenatal alcohol exposure could explain some of your struggles in life), please reach out to me here for a complimentary consultation: https://calendly.com/kaspertrainingan... As always, thank you for tuning in this week. Please consider liking/subscribing/sharing this podcast. Have a wonderful week! Until next Monday, Patti Kasper, Your FASD Coach
