SVP Vincentian MESL Research Centre - The Today Show 13/07/26

from Ros FM 94.6 · host ROS FM

The cost of achieving a Minimum Essential Standard of Living (MESL) has increased by an average of 3.8% over the past year and by 23.6% since 2020, according to the latest Report launched by the SVP Vincentian MESL Research Centre. Unfortunately, social welfare payments have not increased to keep up with these increases in the cost of living, which means more people are living in poverty than ever before. Adrianne speaks here with Niamh O’Carroll, an MESL Researcher, about their report findings and the four key priorities that they are putting forward for government to implement in the upcoming Budget 2027, which includes an increase to core social welfare rates and targeted income supports to families with children aged 12 years and over. Please visit Vincentian MESL Research Centre at SVP to access the MESL 2026 Report, and for further information or supports please contact [email protected] or go to www.budgeting.ie
