My Ear for You - Just Talk: A Volunteer Phone Line Tackling Loneliness in Switzerland In this conversation, Dr. Olivier Seiler explains the origins and growth of the Swiss initiative "Mein Ohr für Dich" ("My Ear for You"), launched in March 2021 during COVID to offer lonely people a low-threshold way to chat with a real person. The service is not a crisis or suicide helpline. Volunteers mainly discuss everyday topics, and refer distressed callers to other organizations when needed. Around 50 screened and trained volunteers take shifts from home, supported by regular coaching and supervision from founders Philippe (psychologist) and Daniella (coach), plus team gatherings three times a year. The project expanded from an elderly-focused inspiration (the UK's "Silver Line") to all ages and includes a "Tandem Friends" option for weekly calls with the same volunteer while remaining anonymous and not meeting in person.
