Taking the Helm: Aboard Life's Boat - By Paddy Kidd
from Audio Tales TU Dublin · host Audio Tales TU Dublin
Receiving news of a cancer diagnosis can change one's life forever. However, for a unique group of women known as the Plurabelle Paddlers, this has not prevented them embracing a full and active life post breast cancer treatment. The Plurabelles are the first group in Ireland to be part of the growing international breast cancer dragon boat movement. The movement combines physical fitness training and comradeship; it welcomes and embraces all women on whatever part of the personal cancer journey they are on. From the calming sound of paddles slicing in synch through water, through to the occasional onboard banter and the coxswain's shouts to keeping time - it's the spirit of empathy and community, that keeps these women riding life's waves together. More information on the Plurabelle Paddlers can be found at: Website: https://www.plurabellepaddlers.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/plurabelle.paddlers.5 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/plurabelle_paddlers/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/dragonboatie This audio documentary was recorded entirely on location at the Grand Canal Wharf in Dublin City.
