Conversion practice is legal in the Republic of Ireland and the UK. Conversion practices can take place in religious, medical or psychological services, in an attempt to convert members of the LGBTQ+ Community to heterosexuality or to align with their sex assigned at birth. Amelhyne O’Regan-Farineau talks to activist Justin Hardie, who shares his true story of undergoing conversion therapy between the ages of 17 and 23 in the UK. Two decades on, Justin details his religious bringing, the emotional turmoil he suffered, and how he has begun to reclaim his spirituality. This radio documentary seeks to uncover a DIY approach to staging live music in Dublin, and highlight an alternative to the apparent pay-to-play model of the Irish Music industry. In particular, the piece documents the function and operation of the DIY venue space, Daylight. Through interviews with musicians, the organisers behind Daylight, members of its audience, and live recordings of bands, Where do we go from here? shines a light on the flaws of the current model of live performance for musicians seeking to present experimental music, and presents an alternative approach to staging live music.

This audio documentary, hosted by Adam Zaidan, traces the River Poddle from its opening at Tymon Park in Tallaght to its hidden, underground course beneath the streets of Dublin, revealing how a small waterway shaped the city far more than people actually realise. Through historical narration, insight from historian Aidan Hodson, county council member and civil engineer, David Grant and past resident, Maura Ní Chonaill, it uncovers the Poddle’s long reputation for flooding and repeated surges through Harold’s Cross and Kimmage in the late 20th century. The story moves between past and present, from childhood recollections of Poddle Park, the mills the river once powered, the folklore of traditional Irish songs like Weile Waile and the modern engineering efforts to finally tame the river, which prevented flooding during Storm Sandra in January 2026. The audio documentary follows the river to its end, emerging from darkness into the Liffey at Wellington Quay. The closing moments reveal a river that has always been small in scale but enormous in influence. Somewhere to Stand is an audio documentary that explores the importance of belonging and connection for gay men within the world of the GAA. What started off as a documentary to examine gay men’s experiences with homophobia in GAA evolved into a more nuanced exploration of identity, community, and connection. Through personal accounts, it follows different experiences of being a gay man in the GAA; from stepping away, to staying, to creating new spaces. Featuring voices including Dónal Óg Cusack and members of Na Laochra Aeracha, this documentary reveals the complexity of a sport often defined by tradition and community. Rather than offering a single narrative, it highlights how the same space can be experienced in very different ways. At its core, Somewhere to Stand reflects on how men connect through shared experience, and why having a place to stand beside others, whether in traditional teams or new ones, remains so important. Women in Ireland drop out of Gaelic Games far more often then people realise. In this programme, Kelsey Doogan will explore why that is. She will be talking to former player, Megan McGee, on her reasons why she left and what may have made her stay. Everyone knows about gambling, but not many are aware of the dangers of online crypto-gambling. One small sports publication from Dublin took on one of the biggest crypto-gambling companies worldwide. With no legal licences, traceability, or accountability, these cryptogambling websites have taken social media by storm with advertising, often targeting young impressionable men with their sports betting advertisements. Paddy Keogh joins us to tell us how he brought awareness to the issue and the backlash he faced from it.

Ireland's nightlife is crying out for help. With the constant closure of nightclubs all around the country, Irish dancers are now taking it upon themselves to create their own spaces to dance. After the pandemic, massive attention was given to the closure Irish club culture and its rapid decline. Although the spaces that this culture typically call home are slowly dwindling, the culture hasn’t halted. Many dancers have decided to not let their situation dictate when or where they can dance, creating their own dancefloors in unconventional spaces.

More and more, people are becoming disillusioned with the state of the world and our governments inaction to change things. Some people aren’t taking this lying down. Many people have restored to direct action protesting to show people that they’re serious and demand change in a way people can’t ignore.

My short audio piece Rural Ireland: The Young Farmers Holding On, shares the opinions of Shane McGuinness and Luke O’Boyle, two young farmers from rural Ireland. It shares their opinions on the lack of young people getting into farming and the recent fuel protests across the country. It focuses on their love for farming while also exploring the hardships they face. According to the Central Statistics Office, just 4.3% of farm holders in Ireland are under the age of 35, with the average age of farm holders aged 59. It’s a stark figure that shows the lack of young people pursuing the career. Luke and Shane share the highs and lows of farm life, their first memories on the farm and why they believe young farmers are becoming a rare sight. During the editing process, Irelands farmers and hauliers took to roads across the country to protest the rising fuel prices. This led me back to Shane and Luke’s farms to hear their thoughts and the effects the fuel costs were having on their farms. Working on this documentary opened my eyes to what life is like for the people who work our land. I hope you take the time to watch it and get a better understanding of what it means to be a young farmer in Ireland today.

She considers what it might look like if rehabilitation were taken seriously as a shared social goal. Former prison governor Eddie Mullins offers the view from inside the walls – a system under pressure, staff who want to do their best, and institutions trying to balance safety, resources and the ambition to change lives. Together, their stories open up a set of difficult, but important, questions: What does it take for someone to truly get a second chance after prison – and what kind of justice system would support that?

Johnathon Pearl explores the sickening amount of abuse GAA referees are receiving on a daily basis. The levels of abuse towards referees has risen to an alarming rate. Nearly every month there is a report that a referee has gotten physically assaulted, and the GAA have done absolutely nothing about it. After officiating an u17 game, a referee in Kilkenny was informed through a letter to his house, that someone had wish he ‘’would die roaring with cancer’’. While people might be shocked with this level of vitriol, it is going on all over the country and if it continues, we simply won’t have enough officials to control our games. I wanted to give referees a voice, to show how much abuse they do receive, how it can affect them, and if this abuse does continue what future the GAA has. Music credits. 1.
