“Tell Me What’s Good” - A Life Philosophy with Steph Hauser

from Unlocked · host Krista & Phil Franks

How often are you focused on what’s not going well or what’s not enough in your life? Quite often, right? We’re naturally wired to find the gaps, the problems, the challenges to keep us safe and stable. Unfortunately, that mental programming can influence the trajectory of our lives.  What if you could rewire that thought pattern? Not by dismissing the challenges but by pairing that thinking with what’s going well. And over time, you reprogram your thinking to naturally, effortlessly reflect on the challenges and what’s going well, equally. Sounds ideal, right? Our guest today, Steph Hauser, and her husband, Ben, developed this practice for themselves and their family in the most dire of life experiences. Their son, Zev, was born very unexpectedly at 23 weeks gestation, which is under the current age of viability for sustaining life outside the womb.  From day one, when they were told again and again that their son would not survive for so many reasons, Steph and Ben continued to flank any devastating news with, “Yes, thank you. Now, tell me what’s good.” That resilient question not only brought light to every conversation, but it instilled massive hope in the journey.  “Tell me what’s good” became a life philosophy, a mantra, a way of being.  It’s a practice that we wanted Steph to share with you all today. Be prepared for a story of “survival, surrender and hope,” as Steph puts it. Be prepared for your life to feel different immediately after listening to Steph’s words of pure honesty and inspiration.  Steph and Ben are a testament to what’s possible when you are intentional and committed to your lifestyle design. They are a shining light of hope and possibility for us all. MORE ABOUT STEPH: Stephanie Hauser is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of 4those, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing healing, hope, and possibility to families who have experienced the journey around extreme prematurity. She is also the host of The Zev Project podcast, which first tells the story of her son Zev, born at 23 weeks, and the incredible and impossible odds he fought to overcome and the hope they reclaimed in the process. Using a key strategy in her life that she calls “Tell Me What’s Good,” Stephanie explores how hope and surrender upset the common narrative and provide a more balanced and engaged posture when faced with some of life’s biggest challenges. Through the nonprofit, the podcast, and a forthcoming book, Stephanie aims to encourage others in their own difficult journeys to believe in possibility, reminding them that there is beauty and abundance to be had along the hard road. Stephanie lives in northern Colorado with her family of four boys ages 6-and-under, and co-owns FOX•DOG COFFEE, a local coffee shop dedicated to loving, serving, and inspiring their community in radical ways, with her kick-ass husband, Ben.CONNECT WITH STEPH:https://www.instagram.com/sd_hauser/https://www.thezevproject.com/https://www.instagram.com/thezevproject/https://www.4those.org/https://www.instagram.com/4thoseorg/CONNECT WITH OWL & KEY:www.owlandkey.cowww.instagram.com/owl_and_key/linktr.ee/owlandkey
