TELSTAR re-mix

from Crummey Show · host Crummey Music

1962 in America was a time when anything seemed possible. And with the July launch of Telstar, the first active communications satellite, the United States was riding the crest of yet another wave of electronic advancement. Telstar was built in NJ. at Bell Labs and it was the first satellite to send live TV/Fax & Phone calls across the Atlantic. It's something we take for granted, our ability to speak with anyone anywhere around the world at any time, but it all began with the first Telstar back in 1962. The idea of a man-made star soaring through space inspired this guy, Joe Meek to write a song about it. Telstar's been covered by a ton of old school bands like the Tornados, the Ventures and the Shadows, and like most of the pop music from that era its quite simple, but there's something about the way this instrumental captures the righteous joy of those times.
