Op haar 14e, moest ze op een vroege ochtend in 2022 halsoverkop Kharkiv ontvluchten voor de naderende Russen. Nu, ruim drie jaar later, wordt de stad nog steeds regelmatig beschoten, maar is het dagelijkse leven weer hervat. Daarom mag Zenja van haar moeder één weekendje terug naar de stad. Om haar eigen kamertje te bezoeken en een vriendin, die achterbleef, opnieuw te ontmoeten. Correspondent Michiel Driebergen ging met haar mee en maakte een reportage. En toen was daar plots de aanval van Hamas op 7 oktober en werd Gilad in één klap correspondent, veel eerder dan hij had verwacht.
