Terug naar Kharkiv & 22-jarige Gilad werd in één klap correspondent in Israël

Terwijl er wordt gesproken over vrede in Oekraïne, gaat de oorlog voorlopig gewoon nog door. Ook voor de bijna 18-jarige Zenja. Op haar 14e, moest ze op een vroege ochtend in 2022 halsoverkop Kharkiv ontvluchten voor de naderende Russen. Nu, ruim drie jaar later, wordt de stad nog steeds regelmatig beschoten, maar is het dagelijkse leven weer hervat. Daarom mag Zenja van haar moeder één weekendje terug naar de stad. Om haar eigen kamertje te bezoeken en een vriendin, die achterbleef, opnieuw te ontmoeten. Correspondent Michiel Driebergen ging met haar mee en maakte een reportage. (10:27) Een vredesjournalist in oorlogstijd Voor een stage bij The Times of Israel vertrok de 22- inmiddels 23-jarige Marokkaans-Joodse Gilad Perez naar Tel Aviv. En toen was daar plots de aanval van Hamas op 7 oktober en werd Gilad in één klap correspondent, veel eerder dan hij had verwacht. Hoe blijf je in tijden van oorlog trouw aan journalistieke principes? En hoe doe je als jonge journalist naar eer en geweten verslag van Israel en Palestina.
