It is appropriate to do something a little different but necessary given the current situation in what is fast becoming the 3rd Gulf War. There are many opinions now. The goal of this is to help you focus on what actually needs to be looked at and focused upon to formulate an economic outlook; whether it be recovery or stagflation as both have implications to the Dollar, Oil, and Gold itself. On that note, Here is a slide deck that Mizuho put out yesterday (we feel asks the right questions and gets things rolling in the correct direction) discussing the scenarios for the current conflict. We’ve included that below for more intense perusing. The video is a powerpoint style walkthrough with summary comments for each slide accompanying the pictures themselves. The most important sections for Gold implications are:* The Central Bank comments, and how the decision to not ease can/will take short term interest out of Gold… until the next Fed Chair joins* The 3 key questions are the right questions to ask in helping handicap outcomes* The possible outcomes and their probability of happening are pretty good with stagflation being the biggest risk, which is ultimately bullish for Gold… especially against equities. We are in the 1970s again for sure. While the question remains is this 1973 (boom time) or 1976 ( the edge of nasty stagflation).. this war puts us much closer to the 1976 scenario. This whole scenario reeks of prolonged problems. Another genie has been let out of the bottle, and like Ukraine and Gaza, it will not in our view be resolved with a Kumbaya moment unless Iran falls cleanly.
