Fifty years ago last week, the world watched in horror as the last American helicopter lifted from the rooftop of our embassy in Saigon. South Vietnam had fallen. But as my guest will explain, this wasn’t a military defeat – it was a betrayal by politicians in Washington who abandoned our ally after promising to stand with them. Dr. Rod Martin joins us today. In his recent essay republished on X, he reminds us of the full story: After the Paris Peace Accords under Nixon and Kissinger, America had achieved “peace with honor.” South Vietnam was capable of defending itself with our promised support. But post-Watergate, a radical Congress cut military aid by over 75%, blocked any response to North Vietnamese violations, and left our friends without bullets, fuel, or hope. What followed was catastrophic: re-education camps, executions, the boat people crisis where millions fled and hundreds of thousands died at sea, and Pol Pot’s genocide in Cambodia.
