You can learn a lot by paying attention to nonverbal communication, but have you ever stopped to wonder what your body language is communicating to the people around you? Whatever the words, whatever the body language, the key is to ensure they match each other. In communication, when those languages align, we call it congruence and when they don't, it's incongruence. You've probably been in a situation where someone is telling you one thing with their words, but their body language says the opposite. Whether it's because they're in a defensive position or literally shaking their head even though they're saying yes, sometimes it's obvious.
