The Business of Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone, and may grace, mercy, and peace be multiplied to you. We will be in John 2 this week. What do we make Christmas about? For many of us, we make it about giving gifts, making sure the right lights are up, getting the Christmas tree just perfect, making meal plans, and spending time with family we hardly ever see. There's nothing necessarily wrong with that, but if we make it all about that instead of about celebrating the birth of Christ, that's a problem. The one time Jesus got mad is when people were conducting business in God's house. Our traditions aren't necessarily bad in the way that conducting business isn't necessarily bad, but when it replaces worship, that crosses the line. What are you making Christmas about this year? “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28 19-20 Don’t forget to pray for one another, especially during these uncertain times.
