The Ceiling FanThe ceiling fan sits at the top of the room, observing. Sometimes collecting dust—let’s say it—but mostly just looking around.It knows that in the winter it will pull the warm air down, and in the summer it will spread the cool air around. And there it is, ready for whenever someone flips a switch or pulls a cord to make it work.It is not overwhelmed by anything.It is not anxious about anything.It is just ready.Knowing its purpose.Knowing its function.Knowing that when it is needed, it will be there.And knowing that what it does, nobody else in the room does quite the same way.So it sits there, sometimes watching little kiddos running around, or an elderly person reading in front of the fireplace, or the whole family piled up in the kitchen—knowing there is plenty of space around the house, but somehow everybody is right there in the kitchen, rubbing against each other.And through all of it, the ceiling fan sits at the top of the room.Observing.Waiting.Ready.Maybe today we can be reminded that we can be a little like the ceiling fan: knowing who we are, knowing our purpose, and simply being ready.Ready to blow fresh air.Ready to move the hot air out of whatever place we have been positioned in.Ready to do what we were created to do.Yep, we could learn a thing or two from the ceiling fan.We don't have to be anxious.We don't have to be impatient.We don't have to spend our time wondering when our moment will come.We can simply know our purpose and be ready.Because when the right moment comes, and the right switch is flipped, it will be time to activate the power that was already there.
