In Day Five of Sarah Boone's Trial, attorney James Owens' lack of prep time shows as he cross examines State witness Doctor Tonia Werner, a forensic psychiatrist practicing since 1998, and asks the doctor to confirm Sarah's battered spouse syndrome (BSS) and PTSD. Werner stated she didn't have enough evidence to diagnose PTSD and said most damningly that because Sarah stated at the outset that she and victim Jorge Torres were having a fun day of hide-and-go-seek, Sarah had no reasonable belief she was in imminent danger. This pulled the rug out of Sarah's entire defense-- she has BSS, yes, but it didn't matter during the moment when Sarah zipped the case shut and never let Jorge out again.
