The Effort Edge: Does Hard Work Beat Talent Every Time?
from The Health and Sport Show
In today's St Patrick's day episode we talk about one of Ireland's great sporting leaders, Mr Paul O'Connell. A giant of a man in both physical stature and mental fortitude. A man who said Warren Gatlands favourite saying in rugby;'We need to be the best at all the things that require no talent..'He was talking about chasing kicks with maximum effort, getting back into defensive position quicker than the opposition etc. Not parts of the game that required physical, technical or tactical knowledge or ability (talent)... but have the mental strength to put in maximum effort in all areas of the game. Now, I believe that like all skills, the ability to apply maximum effort consistently to all areas of your life is in fact a skill in itself, and can be trained and improved over time.
