The Eras of Justin

from Mi Duole Cycling Podcast

Conceived on steeps of Marsac, Justin Spangler came into the world with a bang. He was a BIG surprise to his parents and has been described as a “walking miracle” by his father in law. His favorite fact to share about his life is that he was the second fattest kid in his middle school, ask him to see the picture. A true rag to riches story, Justin rose from disparity as he started pursuing his dreams. He was very lucky to always be surrounded by good friends. These friends encouraged him to attend the University of Utah where he went on to become the Student Body President and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. That’s where he met his college sweetheart and now wife, Sarah Paul. Justin and Sarah have been married for 8 years and have two beautiful children, Ford and Adeline. Throughout their marriage, Justin has an epiphany every few years that he wants to get into a new hobby. That hobby quickly turns into an obsession. Justin is currently in his “Cycling Era”. His wife is hoping his next one will be his “handy man era” or “yard work era”. Let’s quickly go through the Eras of Justin’s Life to help you understand how he got to where he is now: The Eras of Justin: 1) Fat Kid Justin, aka “Juggin Nubs” as his childhood friends so lovingly nicknamed him. 2) Football Justin, where he lost the weight and had a massive growth spurt to 6’6” 3) Frat Boy Justin, where he sported a Zac Efron hairdo and everyone called him “Nubs” because of the missing fingers he wasn’t born with on his left hand. 4) Missionary Justin, where he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jackson Mississippi. 5) Student Body President Justin, perhaps the peak of his life. Marathon Justin, where he sustained many injuries and broken bones as a runner and was miraculously fast and quite often podiumed in the ever-too-fitting “Clydesdale” weight group. 6) Google Justin, where working for Google became his entire identity and favorite bragging right. And that takes us to his current era… 7) Cycling Justin, where sweet sweet Justin realized his ultimate life dream and calling in life of becoming a pro cyclist just a little too late but has decided to make it his top priority anyways. All joking aside, Justin is a wonderful husband, father, and son. His family is so blessed to have him and love cheering him on!
