The Escape of David & The Prayer of Jesus (Day 147)

from The Bible in a Year Podcast with Scott Purcell

Where do you find safety when the world turns hostile? Today in 1 Samuel, David becomes a hunted man. King Saul’s jealousy boils over into open execution orders, forcing David to flee for his life. Through the brave intervention of his wife Michal and a famous, heart-wrenching hidden arrow signal from his covenant brother Jonathan, David escapes into the wilderness. In breathtaking tandem, the Gospel of John takes us behind the veil of eternity. As Jesus prepares to cross the Kidron Valley toward the cross, He finishes His High Priestly Prayer. He isn't praying for Himself; He is praying for you. He explicitly asks the Father to protect His disciples from the evil one and maps out a glorious prayer for absolute unity among all future believers, asking that the very love of the Father would rest inside us.Today’s Scripture:📖 1 Samuel 19–20 – Saul tries to spear David again and sends assassins to his house, but Michal helps him escape through a window. David flees to Samuel at Ramah, where Saul's chasing guards are swept up by the Holy Spirit and begin to prophesy. In chapter 20, David and Jonathan hatch a secret plan at the Feast of the New Moon to test Saul’s intentions. When Saul hurls a spear at his own son in a rage, Jonathan realizes David is doomed. They share a weeping farewell in a field after Jonathan uses a hidden arrow signal to warn David to run.📖 John 17:6–26 – Jesus concludes the Upper Room Discourse by praying extensively for His immediate followers and all who will believe through their message. He asks the Father to keep them safe in the world, to sanctify them in the truth of the Word, and prays for a fierce, supernatural unity: "That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you."📖 Psalm 68:7–14 – David recalls God's historic march through the wilderness, where the earth quaked, the heavens poured down rain, and God provided a generous inheritance for His needy people. The psalmist celebrates how the Lord gives the command, causing a host of women to shout the good news of fallen kings and scattered enemies.RESOURCES & READ-ALONG📺 Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYKi8-_5xHGL_nFAZOthHtZhcb4CqW4ZF📖 Follow the Text (LEB): https://biblia.com/books/leb/🗓️ Download the Full Plan: https://www.biblica.com/resources/reading-plans/CONNECT & SUPPORT📧 Questions?
