The "Even If" Faith | Trusting God Through Grief

from Renew Your Mind: Mindset & Purpose for Christian Women · host Donna K Woolam

"Even if you don't, my hope is still on you." An episode of The Pursuit of God series on the ReNew Your Mind podcast, based on Donna K. Woolam’s book, His Hostage Heart | Encountering the Unrelenting Love of God.In this deeply personal episode, I share the "Even If" season of my life—the journey through my husband Richard’s eight-year battle with cancer and his eventual passing in 2020. The core of this message explores the tension between praying for a miracle and facing a reality where the "even if" occurs. Through the lens of the Syrophoenician woman’s encounter with Jesus, we learn that God isn't looking for perfect religious performance or the "right" covenant words. He is looking for a heart that comes to Him in raw honesty. The transformation I’m calling you to is a shift from performance-based faith to a "full-hearted bare" trust, knowing that God’s goodness isn't defined by our circumstances, but by His unchanging nature. -------------------------Grief isn't always something you simply get over; for many of us, it lives at a low level, coloring the seasons of our lives. In 2020, I walked through the ultimate "Even If" when my husband, Richard, passed away after an eight-year battle with multiple myeloma and renal cell carcinoma. It was a season that forced me to strip away the "right" religious words and encounter the Father’s heart in its rawest form. The Reality of the "Even If": Acknowledging the song of our lives when the miracle we prayed for doesn't look the way we expected. Performance vs. Presence: Like the Syrophoenician woman, we must stop trying to use "right" words and simply throw ourselves at His feet. The Honesty of the Throne: God can handle your anger, your questions, and your "I don't know if you're good" moments. Hope Beyond the Grave: Finding peace in the promise that Christ in us is the hope of glory, even in the wake of betrayal or loss.
