The Father & Son Specials Ep 1 / 4

from Always Better than Yesterday with Ryan Hartley | A Podcast for Heart Centred Leaders · host Ryan Hartley

LEAD WITH LOVE: Father & Son Special This week is Corey's 8th birthday!! I cannot believe I have an 8 year old son and so, to celebrate, I decided to bring him onto the podcast and create a special 4-part father and son series! All 4 episodes will be released this week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) so make sure you're following me on social media to see when they are released! Aim of this series It was really special for me getting to spend this time with Corey and talk all about life. In this 4-part series, we are just chatting in the hope to help people from 8 to adult work on their mindset and lead with love. Within this comes discussion on doing what you love, being someone you love and helping others along the way. It has been so nice speaking to Corey about such a mixture of things and just seeing his outlook on the world, it really makes me feel so proud! We cover quite a few different topics throughout the series, two of the main points that I have taken away from this experience are: Importance of Words We talk quite a bit about the importance of words. The words that we speak to each other but also the words that we speak to ourselves, aloud or in our heads. The importance that they have on our actions, behaviours and attitude in everything that we do. When we spoke about doing your best, Corey says “I think doing your best or being at your personal best, although there is no personal best there, you can always be better”. And I love that he said personal best. We can always do our best, for now, knowing that our best for now is not the best we could ever do. Sometimes we have bad days, bad mornings and so we might not be at our absolute best. But, we can always do our personal best in every moment. Perfection Doesn't Exist The strive for perfection in this day and age can get a little foggy. What is perfect? Does perfect even exist? Your perfect and my perfect could be completely different things so I like to say “practice makes progress” because at the end of the day, progress should be the goal. No matter what it refers to, maybe its work, attitude, or in Corey's case, video games, practice makes progress. No-one is good at something straight away. You see other people, friends, family doing amazing things but you often don't see what has gone on behind the scenes, the path that has got them there. The practice. On top of this, it has been eye-opening for me to see and listen to Corey and see what things I do that he might take away from me. Things that I can do better (explain games in more detail and calm down mainly).  It has been so much fun having Corey on the podcast with me, let me know if you watch the episodes and what you think!
