The Fear of the LORD
from The Resurrection Anglican Church Podcast · host Resurrection Anglican Church
Sermon Title: The Fear of the LORD Text: Exod 9:13-30 Date: 3/8/26 The fear of the LORD is one of the most fascinating themes in all of Scripture. On the one hand, Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,” And yet, on the other hand, 1 John 4:18 says that “perfect love casts out fear.” In fact, the most frequent command in the Bible is “do not fear.” But we are told, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” Obviously, from the Bible’s point-of-view, there is a good kind of fear, and a bad kind of fear; a right way to fear God and a wrong way to fear God. But how can you tell the difference? What does it mean to truly fear the LORD? That’s what this seventh plague is about. This text warns us against three versions of wrong fear — No Fear, Indifferent to Fear, and Fear of Consequences — in order for us to have a healthy, true fear of God.
