The Future for Creative Workers

from Gifted Underachievers · host Dobes and James Buchanan

Right now, Pat sees creative work as often being underappreciated (unless it sells well). She encounters many creatives who are struggling to find an audience, produce consistently, and make a living with their art. She’d like to see more accessible local community-building spaces and support for artists, both public and individual. She’d like to see easier and more transparent access to studio space and community-building opportunities at the local, national, and international level.James would like to see more of that too, and gives a shout-out to the work of Sharon Louden and Vinson Valega at the Institute for Sustained Creativity in its efforts to connect and support artists in all creative disciplines. He’d also like to see more original art easier to find—whether it’s visual art, film, dance, or books. He’d like to see the ACT of creativity being honored regardless of its financial “success,” and for creatives to get a little more respect in general.Questions for Listeners(Leave a comment by clicking the button below)* Where do you see creative work being in 5, 10, 20 years?* What’s your PERSONAL vision for your own work? For Further ExplorationBook: The Future of Creative Work: Creativity and Digital Disruption, Edited by Greg Hearn, Professor, Creative Industries Faculty, Queensland University of Technology, Australia: https://www.e-elgar.com/shop/usd/the-future-of-creative-work-9781839101090.htmlOur interview with the amazing Sharon Louden: The Institute for Sustained Creativity: https://www.sharonlouden.com/institute-for-sustained-creativityWorld Economic Forum: COVID-19 shows it’s time to rewrite the script on jobs in the creative economy: https://www.weforum.org/stories/2020/10/covid-19-shows-it-s-time-to-rewrite-the-script-on-jobs-in-the-creative-economy/Ways to increase your creative income that don’t require MORE. https://jessicaabel.com/increase-creative-income/Thanks for listening to Gifted Underachievers! Explicit Up a River Aural Stories Lisa Cathcartt, believes in big, beautiful, ecstatic love. Correction: she believes in the kind of love that is big, beautiful, and fart-free. Her husband died when they were young, so she only got the very best of him. After his death, besides taking care of her kids, she relied on romance novels, specifically ones by lauded and bawdy author, Candace Bigbush, to scratch her romance itch. So, when her adult children gifted her a cruise on the Romantic Rhine - with the famed author who will show her and fifty others the amazing locations that inspired her seminal book, The Hero and the Heroine – she can’t turn it down. The romantic Rhine and little push from the author help Lisa open up to new possibilities, new places, and potentially new love: like the tall, dark, handsome Captain Dalton. Dalton, until this point, has been married to the sea - or river - depending on what ship he’s piloting.
