This week we talk to multi-hyphenate superstar Maria Scherer about the future of fitness (12:19). Maria is a performer and group fitness instructor who’s coached pilates, dance cardio, Orangetheory, and HIIT. Sam and Maria met in college through BODYMPUMP, a Les Mills strength training class (15:49). After booking a role in a production of Mamma Mia (22:20), the pandemic quickly shut down Broadway and Maria found herself home in Pennsylvania, searching for creative ways to satisfy her craving for group fitness (36:47). Now back in NYC she teaches classes at Prehab, a fitness company dedicated to creating routines for athletes to “prehab” so they don’t need rehab. We geek out over musical theater and dance, then explain how important it is for group fitness instructors to share their personality and create a welcoming environment for class participants (51:09). Digital workout classes are already ushering in a new age of virtual fitness (53:44), and Maria shares where she thinks the industry is headed. Zoom and Obé and Peloton, oh my! Tune in for some laughs, inspiration, and motivation to move! Follow Maria’s IG here (https://bit.ly/2JW4zMo) and click here to sign up for one of her classes (https://bit.ly/3pnMlUn).
