The Gilead Gazette 👁️Mail-Order Abortion Pills Banned, Prosecuting Patients, and Oklahoma’s Felony Law

This week on the Gilead Gazette: The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a nationwide stay of the FDA’s 2023 telehealth abortion rules, effectively banning mail-order mifepristone in every state effective immediately. The court cited $92,000 in Medicaid costs for two patients to justify stripping telehealth abortion access from every woman in the country. Texas Congressman Brandon Gill asked law professor Jessica Waters her “favorite type of abortion” before a House Judiciary subcommittee, with a grin. In Iowa, gubernatorial candidate Brad Sherman called for prosecuting abortion patients. In Oklahoma, the legislature sent the governor a bill making delivery of abortion pills a felony, ten years in prison and a $100,000 fine. Illinois meanwhile passed a bill protecting abortion medication from state surveillance. Trump replaced his surgeon general nominee with Fox News contributor Nicole Saphier, who said in 2019 that every woman has the right to choose, the anti-abortion movement is not pleased. Conservatives filed yet another lawsuit to keep Virginia’s abortion rights amendment off November’s ballot.
