The fox is often a supernatural helper in fairy tales. In shamanic and indigenous cultures, animals are spirits, or are connected to spirits, that are here to teach and guide us. They are here to help us. This is a truth that can be discovered by spending time, in earnest, with young children. The fox symbolises trusting in intuition, intelligence and breaking out of social conditioning. This symbolism rises up in the Grimm’s fairy tale, The Golden Bird. When we read to young children, we are encouraging them to grow their imagination and create the images in their mind.
