from The Brain Love Podcast · host Dr. Delvena

June is African American Music Appreciation Month! It was created by President Jimmy Carter in 1979. We celebrate the African American musical influences that comprise an essential part of our nation's treasured cultural heritage. You've heard of Kendrick Lamar? J. Cole? Well, add Yung Wylin to this list of conscious hiphop artists. Like Kendrick and J. Cole, Yung Wylin has had his encounters with mental health and wellness. He shares his journey in developing his wellness plan which includes a 'clean' diet, awareness of processed foods and how they affect us, our brains, our children based on his personal experiences. His desire to live healthier and to share what he has learned has inspired his style of rap - conscious rap. Conscious rap is a sub-genre of hip-hop aimed at creating social awareness. Yung Wylin's new single, "Good Energy" is capturing young and old from the head boppin' track to the meaningful, uplifting lyrics. Yung Wylin is on a mission to share his 'good energy', his insights into being the change that we all need. He takes the couch with me to share his path to this 'good energy' and how he discovered that society needs more conscious and social awareness.
