The Journey Of Freeing Myself From A Narcissistic Mother

from Go Regulate Yourself · host Brianne Roberge

For the last 12+ years, I have been distanced from my narcissistic mother, and other members of my family, a choice that was necessary for my own mental health and wellbeing. But although I now find myself in a place of peace and happiness- the road to getting here was not an easy one.    Thus, in today's episode, I share what my journey of creating this distance has looked liked, and the moment that I 'woke up' and realized just how manipulative and controlling my childhood actually was. I discuss the pain and the grief that came with unravelling old memories, the effort it took to choose me, and most importantly, ways to support yourself in your own journey if you find yourself in the presence of toxic family members.   Biggest Takeaways Boundaries or distancing yourself from toxic people may be required in your own life. But the only person who is going to be able to decide which people stay in your life and which are removed is yourself. When other people are triggered by you upleveling, changing and growing, it is a sign that they have their own healing work to do, and that is not your responsibility to do anything with. Keep going! Learning how to create a feeling of 'home' or 'safety' within your own body can be a major help to navigating difficult situations or people.   Let's dive in, shall we?     The COMING HOME TO YOU 20 week healing program is OFFICIALLY OPEN for enrolment from April 11th - 25th, 2025.
