The Last Unicorn (1982) Vintage Cinema Review - Old Man Orange Podcast 660

Spencer is joined by his ole comic book making buddy, Jack Foster once again to talk about the great joys of vintage cinema. This time they travel back to 1982 and rewatch a fun filled animated classic, The Last Unicorn. A movie that hits more now as adults than it did when we were kids. This is also the last cinema release movie of Rankin and Bass, the ones of all the stop motion Christmas Classics like Rudolf and Frosty. Based on the book of the same name by Peter S. Beagle who also is the screen writer of the film, to keep it as accurate to his initial vision as possible. Other fun facts of this movie are that it is animated by the proto-Japanese team that would become Studio Ghibli in time. Very cool. Makes sense why this movie just looks so damn good. Sadly, like so many fantasy movies of the 80s, it just didn't do well initially at the box office. Having to resort to time in the video store and creating the cult classic following like so many other films of the time.
