The Loretta Brown Show - 08-06-26 - Ancient Spells and Incantations:

from Alternative Talk- 1150AM KKNW · host Alternative Talk- 1150AM KKNW

Today, we’ll explore ancient spells and symbols, the enduring power of language, the wisdom hidden in plants and traditional practices, the legacy of the Salem witches, creativity, consciousness, and what timeless human wisdom may still guide us as we enter one of the most technologically transformative periods in history. Enid Baxter Ryce is an award-winning author, artist, filmmaker, educator, and researcher whose work explores the rich intersections of history, art, nature, storytelling, consciousness, and culture. Her career has crossed remarkable boundaries, bringing together visual art, ethnobotany, filmmaking, literature, folklore, environmental research, and the study of human imagination. Her newest book, Ancient Spells and Incantations: Echoes of Magic Through Cultures and Across the Ages, is the result of years of painstaking research into ancient manuscripts, grimoires, letters, trial transcripts, fragments of papyrus, pottery shards, and rare historical documents from cultures throughout the world. Rather than offering literal translations, Enid presents poetic interpretations that make these ancient voices accessible to modern readers while preserving the beauty, mystery, and humanity found within them. She is also the author of Plant Magic at Home, Grace Flows Through You, The Borderlands Tarot, and numerous scholarly publications. Her forthcoming book, Cultivating Natural Intelligence, examines one of the most important questions of our time: how do we nurture curiosity, imagination, wonder, and authentic human intelligence in children growing up in the age of artificial intelligence? Enid’s creative work has been exhibited and screened internationally at institutions including the National Gallery of Art, the Getty, the Harvard Film Archive, the Library of Congress, and the Arnolfini. Her film War and the Weather, featuring original music by Philip Glass, premiered at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Her work has also been featured in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, NPR, CBS Radio News, People en Español, and numerous other national and international publications.
