The Meanwhile · Whichaway

Today — TODAY — the Postle is flying a letter to you, all the way from your faraway friend. But Postles take the long way round, and waiting is boring (this book will not fib to you about that). Between you and your letter lies the Meanwhile — the flat, quiet land where waiters wait — and hidden in its long gray afternoon are snail-races, cloud-whales, a rumble you have never heard, and the secret the old Dillies hum: the meanwhile is yours. — Whichaway, chapter 3 (ages 4–7).
