Years ago a bottle of shampoo erupted in my backpack — coating everything I owned, right before I boarded a ship where I wouldn’t see a washing machine for days. I have sealed my liquids in a plastic bag every trip since. Long before TSA required it.That memory floated back to the surface this weekend when I picked up my 16-yr-old niece from the airport. She flew across the country on her own and navigated the trip, with connecting flights, beautifully — right up until she took home someone else’s bag.That’s how the useful stuff actually gets built. Not from the average day. From the exception — the one that marks you. I will forever bag my toiletries even on road trips.
