The Patterns of Enoch | Enoch, Zion & the Last Days (LDS)
from THINNING OF THE VEIL · host Tia Smith
Send us Fan MailWhat can Enoch teach us about building Zion today — and why did Enoch come up 17 times in the 2020 general conferences President Nelson called a "hinge point" in Church history? This episode traces the striking parallels between Enoch's day and ours: a prophet calling a people out of a wicked world, teaching the covenant path, and preparing them for the presence of God. We study Enoch not only as prophet and seer but as patriarch and gatherer — whose people kept a book of remembrance of genealogy and temple work (Moses 6:46) — and walk through Moses 7: God weeping over His children, the oath He swore to Enoch, and the promise that righteousness and truth will sweep the earth "as with a flood" to gather the elect to Zion. Along the way: the Joseph Smith Translation's revelation that the rainbow is a token of God's covenant with Enoch — that when his posterity embraces the truth and looks upward, Zion will look downward and return to the earth; President Nelson's teachings on priesthood power and "the best is yet to come"; Orson Pratt on living beneath our spiritual privileges; and the remarkable account of Chris Gittens of Guam — a Navy man turned patriarch whose doorbell rang inexplicably through the night until he did his father's temple work. Q: What does the story of Enoch teach about building Zion today? A: Enoch's ministry is a pattern for our dispensation: he prepared a people to walk with God through the same things taught today — the covenant path, priesthood power, and a "book of remembrance" of genealogy and temple work (Moses 6:46). His city was called Zion "because they were of one heart and one mind and dwelt in righteousness, and there was no poor among them" (Moses 7:18).Q: What does the rainbow mean in LDS scripture? A: More than the familiar promise to Noah — the Joseph Smith Translation of Genesis 9 reveals the rainbow is a token of God's everlasting covenant with Enoch: "when men should keep all my commandments, Zion should again come on the earth," and when Enoch's posterity embraces the truth and looks upward, Zion shall look downward and return to possess the earth with the righteous.Q: Will the city of Enoch return to the earth? A: Yes — Moses 7 records the Lord's promise to Enoch that in the last days His elect will be gathered to a New Jerusalem, and "then shalt thou and all thy city meet them there... and we will fall upon their necks, and they shall fall upon our necks, and we will kiss each other." Joseph Smith taught that "men and angels are to be co-workers" in bringing this to pass.YouTube The Patterns of Enoch Video: https://youtu.be/vhZi3sBDSEcYouTube Thinning of the Veil Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@UCAA9WnYhYvCp1ffCe-AGUQQ SUPPORT THE SHOW:Website: Thinning of the Veil: https://www.thinningoftheveil.com/Venmo: https://account.venmo.com/u/thinningoftheveilBook: "Patterns of Revelation": https://www.amazon.com/Patterns-Revelation-Spiritual-Foundations-Hearing-ebook/dp/B0BWGLZ8VXEmail: [email protected]: https://www.instagram.com/thinning.of.the.veil/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thinning.of.the.veil/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thinning.of.the.veilCITATIONS:Henry B.
