The pleasure of Nostalgia
from Tea With George · host George Caylor, Diane Gruber, Steve Putney
“Nostalgia” by Steve Adams As a young teen, food was a primary motivator for me. Our farm was about 30 minutes from town and, as I grew older, mom would allow me to go my own way while she looked for sewing supplies. One of my favorite places was a nationally franchised ice cream store advertising 31 flavors. Everything they had was amazing. One discontinued flavor stood out though and it is one that I remember today, nearly 50 years later. It was Rum Cherry Trifle.I was in town yesterday and saw one of the stores again. I just had to stop in. I settled on Lemon Custard and Baseball Nut. Both were amazing but they were not the flavor I remembered from so long ago. To this day, I do not know what was so good about Rum Cherry Trifle, the cherries, the crunchy morsels in the ice cream or maybe just the fact that it had the word “rum” in the name. While that flavor is long retired, the sense of Nostalgia the visit brought yesterday was amazing!
