Paul Helgerson, MD is theAssociate Chief Medical Officer of Acute Care at the University ofVirginia.  He is a hospital medicine physician and also serves as the ViceChair of the Department of Medicine at UVA.  Dr. Helgerson has previouslyserved in various positions in quality and performance improvement as well ashospital medicine leadership.   He is a member of the Society ofHospital Medicine’s Quality and Patient Safety Committee, and his scholarlyinterests include issues related to hospital operations, patient flow, and careof complex patients.   He has spent approximately 10 years implementingand coaching various Lean daily management systems on medical acute care units.
