The Real Sober Moms with Kate

Kate is a mom of 4, a school nurse, a wife and she has been sober for 5 years.  Kate was a normal drinker in high school and college. She dabbled and partied and drank like most 20 year olds. After having her first child and becoming a stay at home mom, she found herself lonely, bored, and experiencing a new reality that wasn’t what she thought it would be at all. Drinking at 5 p.m. to reconnect with her husband or hanging out with mom friends became a nightly habit. When her youngest son was born with special needs, her drinking increased, yet it felt manageable to her.  This is where her story is so relatable to so many of us: She wasn’t hitting rock bottom. She would have a bad night and stop drinking for a few months, but eventually she would pick it back up again. Then one day, the bad night just wasn’t worth it. Though quitting wasn’t easy for her, she’s now 5 years sober, she isn’t dreading hangovers, feeling guilty, or worrying about disappointing her kids.
