The Church in Thyatira had issues with bad theology, a common problem in many churches today. They were teaching things contrary to the teachings of scripture, and actively encouraging sin, leading them away from God. It sounds shocking until you realize that there are churches that are ok with unrepentant sexual immorality, and others that don’t even preach from the Bible, but only want to preach to satisfy the people and collect money. God knows it’s not everyone caught up in this teaching, which is why He doesn’t hold it against them. In fact, He encourages them to hold firm, because God will give them authority over the nations.
