The Rise of Abimelech & The Feeding of the 5,000 | Day 129

What kind of leader do we truly hunger for? Today in the Book of Judges, we see the disastrous consequences of seeking a king outside of God's timing. Abimelech, the son of Gideon, murders his brothers to seize power, leading to a dark chapter of civil strife and the prophetic "Parable of the Bramble." In the Gospel of John, we see a different kind of power. Jesus feeds a massive crowd with just five loaves and two fish. When the people try to take Him by force to make Him a king, He withdraws, proving that His Kingdom is not of this world—even as He demonstrates His authority by walking on the stormy sea.Today’s Scripture:📖 Judges 9 – Abimelech conspires with the leaders of Shechem to kill the seventy sons of Gideon. Only Jotham escapes, delivering a scathing parable about a "bramble" bush that becomes king because the fruitful trees refuse the position. The chapter ends with the violent downfall of Abimelech, fulfilling Jotham’s curse.📖 John 6:1–24 – Jesus performs one of His most famous miracles, feeding 5,000 men (plus women and children) from a boy’s small lunch. After the crowd attempts to make Him king by force, Jesus retreats to a mountain. Later that night, the disciples encounter a storm on the Sea of Galilee, only to see Jesus walking on the water toward them, saying, "It is I; do not be afraid."📖 Psalm 58:1–11 – A bold cry for justice against corrupt rulers.
