On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger was about to embark on a historic flight. One of its missions was to bring the first U.S. private citizen into space. A school teacher named Christa McAuliffe was chosen over thousands of others and was given the opportunity of a lifetime, to go into orbit as a member of the Challenger crew. Unfortunately, 75 seconds after launch, it exploded, killing all seven astronauts aboard.
