Susan Smith’s story shocked the nation in October of 1994 when she claimed a black man had kidnapped her two young sons. For nine days, she made dramatic pleas on national television for their safe return but suspicions quickly turned to Smith herself. Susan Smith confessed on November 3, 1994 to the unthinkable she had strapped her children into their car seats into a lake drowning them both.
