The Things that Wedge Us

from MOMocrats · host MOMocrats

Today, the Washington Post political team sent out a newsletter with a old "Dems in Disarray" headline - a description they haven't used much the last couple of years (because nothing on the Democratic side of the aisle can compare to the absolute dysfunction of the GOP-led House). In this newsletter, the WaPo was referring to the war in the Middle East, and they are not wrong. It's a wedge issue, MOMocrats Karoli, Aliza Worthington, and Donna Schwartz Mills managed to demonstrate a little of how that works in their own discussion of the World Central Kitchen aid workers who were killed in Gaza this week. (Let's just say that the discussion got a little heated.) A big tent like the Democratic Party accommodates a wide spectrum of opinions, so traditionally, they've been easier to wedge apart. But what's needed in 2024 is unity. And fortunately, the Republicans have given us an issue that has been unifying people across the Democratic spectrum: the Dobbs decision and the unrelenting attack on women's rights. The MOMocrats talked about that, as well as Donald Trump's "shadow government" and legal travails.
