The Triggers that Make Us Lose Our Patience [Friday, #336]

Here’s an exercise to try when impatience creeps into your life. Take a look at the trigger that’s setting you off. A child disobeys. You’re waiting for someone. You can’t figure out how to make something work. Whatever it might be at the time, call it out and lay it on the table. Then stop for a minute and give it a score from 1-10, depending on how critical the trigger is. In the big picture, is your trigger a 3 or is it a life-threatening, scoring 9 or 10? Today, we'll learn more about triggers and patience. KEY PASSAGE: James 3:3-6 (NIV) When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body.
