Un 20 de junio de 1983 salía el single The Trooper del grupo de heavy rock Iron Maiden dentro de su LP Piece Of Mind. Dicho tema se convirtió en uno de los clásicos y más exitosos temas de banda británica, así como en uno de los imprescindibles de sus conciertos por ser considerado un auténtico himno. Compuesto por el bajista Steve Harris, está inspirado en la Batalla de Balaclava de 1854, que tuvo lugar durante la Guerra de Crimea, conflicto que durante tres años enfrentó al Imperio Ruso contra una gran coalisión formada por el Imperio Otomano, Francia, Gran Bretaña y el reino de Cerdeña. Este tema también tuvo como inspiración el poema de Lord Alfred Tennyson “La carga de la Brigada Ligera”. Así, narra la historia de un soldado que luchó con la Brigada de la Caballería Británica, en la mencionada guerra. The Trooper se centra en transmitir la mirada del protagonista, que se ve arrojado a una muerte segura por seguir el mandato de sus superiores y honrar a su patria. A continuación escucharemos The Trooper interpretado por Iron Maiden.
