The true purpose of Hip-Hop

from What’s On Ya Mind Podcast · host Anthony Brinson III

This episode and discussion in particular is very important to me and the significance of this topic is a huge part of black history. Hip-Hop was created so we could have a voice. Hip-hop gave us an avenue to talk about our struggles and how we’ve over came them. Those being mental struggles, racial struggles, life experiences, etc etc. To diminish a person’s story just because it doesn’t fit your own or you don’t relate, could be considered discriminatory in my personal opinion. There’s not a box hip-hop should be placed in because it’s THEIR story and THEIR form of expression. How can you tell someone how to tell their story or how they should talk about their experiences? It’s more than rap, it’s more than music, it’s a culture and a lifestyle.
