WOYM Episode 46: Yo, why is Ray J fighting

First of all, I would like to say thank you to you guys for allowing me to get to 23 and to get to another year having this platform. The news cycle this past month has been crazy and I have the pleasure of talking about how pop culture and black culture has been the forefront of what has been interesting. Drake finally dropped hypocrite man- I mean Iceman and Chris Brown dropped his self titled “BROWN” project. Also, I can’t  believe I’m about to type this again, Supa Hot Fire fought and knocked out Ray J in a MMA match, what the heck, lol. That, along with a review of The BOYS and Invincible and more are apart of this episode of the What’s On Ya Mind Podcast

WOYM episode 45: It's a cold world out there...

We back this week and imma be completely honest, this episode is a classic, lol. I covered a lot of drama this week and unfortunately it starts with Klay Thompson cheating on Megan Thee Stallion.  After giving some thoughts on that, I speak about Latto’s latest tack “G.O.M.F.” featuring Glorilla, where Glorilla seemingly disses her sister. We’re going to also dive into some NBA Playoff coverage, the latest in the WWE and more

  3. 27

WOYM episode 44: "Guess who's back?"

Eventually I'm going to get this "life" and "consistent content creation" thing down, lol. Welcome back to the What's On Ya Mind podcast everyone!! As I always say, I am immensely grateful for you being here, things have been rough this year but the lord is helping things get better. But about the episode:This week, I'm gonna let you guys in a bit on where I've been and then after that, we're discussing J Cole's seemingly self deprecating (or at least tone deaf) media tour he went on after dropping the fall-off, his and Usher's comments about Diddy, some coverage on the WWE as we approach WrestleMania season and much more including a brief discussion on Gucci Msne being robbed by Pooh Shiesty

  4. 26

WOYM episode 43: "Well Happy New Year"

Well Happy New Year, lol. While I am grateful to the lord for my new year starting off blessed, the year has started off crazy around the world. We're going to talk about why I feel Stranger Things fumbled their finale, expose Adin Ross's distasteful comments on black people, how 50 is on one again with Papoose, Clarissa Shields, Fabulous, etc, more white men saying the N word and it being deemed okay (FaZe Clan) and more(Side note if anyone's interested: I tried out some things with this episode including a microphone I had, so if the audio sounds bad to y'all, let me know, I have some more equipment coming soon that'll hopefully be good or better).

    Photoshoot: POSE

Shoutout to my AAAS Course and my classmates in this video!! For this episode, my classmates and I discuss the show Pose. You guys will hear our thoughts in the episode but I would definitely recommend this show if you haven’t watched it already. It’s an authentic showcase of what people of the LGBTQIA+ and specifically Trans communities went through during the 80’s and 90’s, as well as showcasing Ballroom culture. It’s a great watch and an even better discussion was had from us covering this show. You won’t be disappointed!!

A crazy week in Pod Land: Rory and Mal discourse, Grammy nominations, Cena’s Grandslam and more

A crazy week is an understatement, lol. As the Grammy nominations have dropped and Kendrick Lamar’s name was all over the list, there were people like the Rory and Mal podcast that took their distaste for Dot to another level, you won’t believe how they went from hating on Kendrick to speaking poorly on black women and then being condescending about it…yeah, we’re in for an interesting discussion guys. Other than that, I’m gonna give my own thoughts on some of the Grammy noms and talk about some things going on with the WWE as well. I appreciate you guys for tuning in

  7. 23

The Impact of proper cultural representation

Long time no see!!! This episode acts a return to the pod, as I open up with transparency on the lack of uploads, as well as discussing various topics from Bad Bunny being announced as the headliner for next year's Super Bowl, Monaleo's latest project"Who Did The Body" and how those two things and more are correlated to describing the impact and the significance of representing a culture properly and unapologetically

  8. 22

The mistreatment and misunderstanding of black women in hip-hop media

From my lens, whether you are a Doechii, a Sexy Red or an Ice Spice, it is never enough for black women in the hip-hop world. There's seemingly this unreachable standard they have to reach and even when they are overly judged or sexualized, they are deemed as less than. Unfortunately sometimes the problem even comes from within the black community or even other female rappers. And no matter the heights black women or black people reach, it never seems to be enough. We need to have a conversation.

  9. 21

The detrimental impact of a culture vulture

Season 4 is here and I am so grateful for you all being on this journey with me. Now officially on youtube as well, this episode of the WOYM podcast discusses understanding what exactly is a culture vulture and why they're a problem in the black community.

One of the greatest moments in hip hop history: the battle of the Big 3

In this episode, I'm here to give an overview of the battle of arguably, 3 of the most influential artist in the history of Hip-Hop, J Cole, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. I give a breakdown of the events that led to where we are today and I give my thoughts on how I felt about these artist before, during and after the rap beef. I hope you enjoy

The path of entrepreneurship is not for the weak and only the strong survive. Today, I sit down with one of the most creative minds in the enterpenurship and fashion world. Tell me what's on ya mind: Elle Fromm

Being in the field of Journalism allows me the privilege of sitting down with some great minds and Elle Fromm is no different. I've had the pleasure of learning so much just from knowing her and it would be an understatement to say this is a close friend of mine. Join me in this conversation with my fellow co-host of the "Going Deeper" podcast, Journalist and "Dr" Elle Fromm.

  13. 17

Tell me what's on ya mind: Willow Symonds

It's not everyday you meet someone who's from a different country but in this episode, I got to sit down with Journalist Willow Symonds to discuss her journey as a student and as someone who's seen the world from a lens I can only imagine. The people I've had the pleasure of meeting while attending Michigan State is still mind blowing to me.

  14. 16

    The true purpose of Hip-Hop

This episode and discussion in particular is very important to me and the significance of this topic is a huge part of black history. Hip-Hop was created so we could have a voice. Hip-hop gave us an avenue to talk about our struggles and how we’ve over came them. Those being mental struggles, racial struggles, life experiences, etc etc. To diminish a person’s story just because it doesn’t fit your own or you don’t relate, could be considered discriminatory in my personal opinion. There’s not a box hip-hop should be placed in because it’s THEIR story and THEIR form of expression. How can you tell someone how to tell their story or how they should talk about their experiences? It’s more than rap, it’s more than music, it’s a culture and a lifestyle.

  15. 15

The Burden and Blessing of growing up

By the time this episode was published, I had just recently turned 21 and I still cannot believe it. The older I've gotten, I've started to see one of the most bittersweet things to experience in life is growing older. On one hand, you can thank God for putting air in your lungs for another day but when you get older... other people also grow older. The elderly grow older and sometimes sicker and seemingly everything around you changes.

  16. 14

The bare minimum is no longer the bare minimum: the appreciation of effort

Unfortunately in society, simple politeness or compassion can change a person's outlook on the world due to the lack of it. Whether it's in the dating world, customer service, the things that used to be considered "the bare minimum" are no longer that because some people don't do the bare minimum anymore. Effort goes a long way

  17. 13

Having a "Type" vs having Preferences/The greatest or the best

If you've known me for awhile, you may know that these two topics are topics that I feel very strongly on. In this episode, I'll discuss my personal opinion on having a "type" and how I feel that type of ideology can be close minded. I also discussed my personal viewpoint on the difference between being the best and being the greatest and how one focuses more on pure skill, whereas the other focuses on the combination of skill, accolades, impact and other standards.

  18. 12

Tell me what’s on your mind, Episode 10: Featuring Imani Staley

  19. 11

Tell me what's on ya mind, Episode 9: Featuring Dipika Rao

One of the best Journalist I have had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing. Being a woman who always strives to give a voice to different cultures and going above and beyond to show her appreciation for other cultures, she has always impressed me from showing the genuine care and diligence she has as a Journalist and she has also inspired me to continue being proud of the culture I represent.

  20. 10

Tell me what's on ya mind, Episode 8: Featuring District Judge O'Neill

Being a journalism student at Michigan State opportunity has blessed me with some incredible opportunities, one of which being able to interview the District Judge of Grand Ledge, Michigan in Eaton County, Julie O'Neill. I learned so much from this interview and I don't take this opportunity for granted at all and I hope you all enjoyed the conversation we had.

  21. 9

Tell me what's on ya mind, Episode 7: Featuring Dr Christina Myers and my fellow host of the All Shades of Chocolate podcast, Jada Vasser and Shakyra Mabone

The first half of the interview is from an episode of the All Shades of Chocolate podcast from The State News. I had the honor and the privilege of interviewing Dr Myers and it was one of the best experiences I've had in my life and in my Journalism career. This interview had tons of insightful information and powerful emotion and I hope you all enjoy this episode!!

  22. 8

Tell me what’s on your mind, Episode 6: Featuring Jada Vasser pt. 2

I had the pleasure of welcoming back a close friend of mine and co-host of the All Shades of Chocolate podcast from The State News, Jada Vasser. An incredible person and such an incredible individual overall and it’s always great to have her on the show.

The impact of Rap music: is rap music dangerous for the community?

When artist in the rap community showcase acts of violence or they say certain things that may offend others, the Impact of Hip-hop always becomes the topic of discussion. Sometimes the things put into the atmosphere can have life altering results and sometimes the actions artist take may result in the loss of other's or even themselves. While these things may be true in some cases, I don't feel the music is the "cause" of the bad things that may happen in the world. Let's talk about it...

  24. 6

Gender "Normality" and the importance and beauty of being who you are no matter what.

For my second semester for my second year of college I was in a Sociology class that talked about things such as Sex, Gender and Sexuality. This class brought up interesting conversations about what's deemed normal and "abnormal" from certain genders. A story from this class and a comment someone made about my appearance lead me to making this episode and discussing the importance on being yourself even when others bash you for it.

  25. 5

    The Art of Simplicity

It's interesting to view criticism's of certain artist such as Ice Spice or Playboi Carti even when they are some of the most successful artist in the world. I've seen claims that they are too basic or cannot rap and I want to provide some reasoning as to why the things that are viewed as weaknesses are actually their strengths. To me, there's an art to simplicity.

  26. 4

I am proud of you all and I appreciate you all...

It's been nearly 4 months since I've last posted and the things that have happened this year have left me shell shocked. Everyone goes through things and I understand how difficult life gets and I want to tell all of you why I haven't posted in a while and I want to thank you all for the support you give me with this platform. And I also want to remind you all that the hard work you've put in this year is recognized and I am genuinely proud of you.

The idea of going on dates and finding the perfect person for you has now turned into something different than the initial formula of dating, and we see that in the inconsistencies of people expressing what their true intentions are
